About the event
Ancient Egyptian art workshop! In the second in this series, we turn our creative skills to painting the iconic Egyptian queen: Cleopatra.
Whether you're fascinated by ancient Egypt or want a creative space to explore your imagination with some friends, this painting class will see you painting Cleopatra on a piece of authentic Egyptian papyrus, along to Egyptian music!
You're also welcome to come dressed in themed costumes or a nod to amcient Egypt in your dress if you wish – this is totally optional though! (Your hosts will all be dressed in theme!)
Workshop
Under the tutelage of a local Egyptian artist, you'll learn more about Ancient Egypt, traditional art methods, and ancient kings and queens in this truly unique creative workshop.
As well as learning to create rich and royal tones on your papyrus with paint, you'll also have the option to embellish your royal masterpieces with gold leaf, to represent the exquisite, luxurious embellishments incorporated into traditional Ancient Egyptian art.
The image will be pre-drawn onto the papyrus paper, so the pressure is off, and the opportunity to pick your colours and add your own creative touches is unlimited!
Venue and collection
The venue for this workshop, The Portico Library, is home to the famous and unique Belzoni illustrations, which show the pyramids, temples, tombs, and excavations in Egypt and Nubia. Participants will receive a rare private viewing of these illustrations during the class, as well as some history and context by Portico historian, Dr.Debbie Challis.
The collections contain various etchings and magnificent hand-coloured lithographs of ancient antiquities and Egyptian artwork which will be on display for your enjoyment – a truly unique opportunity to delve into the magic and mystery of Ancient Egypt, in an appropriately historical setting!
